Duck on Golden Pond

This full frame uncropped image was shot at f/2.8 to give a shallow depth-of-field and create an abstract look to the water. It was shot with a 400 mm lens which made the out-of-focus water appear even blurrier. (Most amateur photographers mistakenly believe that a long telephoto lens reduces the depth of field, but it doesn't in any noticable way. It does, however, cause out-of-focus areas to look even more out of focus than they would with a shorter focal length lens.) The camera was positioned so that the late afternoon sun from behind and to the left of the camera lit up the trees on the far bank of the pond and the fall colors of those trees were reflected by the water. It was then just a matter of waiting for a duck to swim into the lime light (pun intended).
